Done for a potluck dinner at a friend's house. I borrowed the idea from Antonia74's version of the Martha Stewart wedding cake. Lemon cake with blackberry jam filling and buttercream.
Kim, you've got it.. And it didn't fall off at all. You have to "touch" the cake pretty hard with the tip, so actually it should be more like "smash the wide end into the cake" and then zigzag lol.
Thank you all! It's done using a #104 rose tip with the wide end touching the cake and just moved in a zigzag motion up the side as the icing is piped.
i love this cake...i want to try this...did you by any chance do a once over w/ icing and then use the tip, or did you go striaght to icing the cake w/ the tip? kudos on this cake!!

This is so cool looking!!! Reminds me of one of those crazy pictures that I can never see a picture in!!!! Cool!!!
very unique!
I LOVE IT -- very cool and VERY well done.
Beautiful! What tip did you use?
I've gotta try this, you say the big side of tip 104 touched the cake & you just zig-zaged up, did it not "fall off the cake"

It's been a while since I did this cake, but from what I remember I did a thin crumb coat first and then did the piping
