eidel - the hummer is on a cake board and then that board is on a rectangle of foam that I covered in the same foil as the base. It was a good bit smaller than the body of the hummer, so it would be harder to see, but you can still see it from the sides.

howie - sorry, I've been so swamped, I just saw your posts... each tire was two round cookies that I put together with some icing and covered in fondant. I'll try to post a mini tutorial, but I don't know how much help it will be....

I used an 11x7 pan (I think) and made 3 layers. The top layer was cut on a slant to form the windshield in front. I iced them all together and put them on a board cut just a tiny bit larger then the cake. Next, I iced all of the red, leaving room for the windows and windshields. I iced those in silver (a matte grey color?) After it had all crusted over I iced on details in black, white and yellow. I looked at some pictures on line as a guide...

Oh - and I made sure to cover the board with icing, so you couldn't see the edges. After it was all iced and set up, I hot glued that board (under the actual cake) to a platform of covered foam board. That platform had been hot glued to the covered base board already.

Then I just added the tires by putting some royal icing on the bottoms and backs of each tire and sticking them into place. Like I said, I don't know if that helped much, but there you go. Best of luck with yours... I'm sure it'll be great.
