First Disaster
This was my final for the gumpaste course. I was attempting to make a hat box, but it looks more like a split muffin. I'm not pleased with my tissue paper either. Comments welcome! If you have ANY suggestions about making a non-muffin hat box or making gumpaste tissue paper look like tissue paper. PLEASE help!
I like it...I just about spit coke on my computer screen over the "split muffin"! Looks great to me...I think the tissue looks fine.
You're too hard on yourself! It's a great job for your first try. Your flowers are wonderful looking as is your border. When making the tissue, it needs to be rolled out paper thin... very see through... cut the edges with a sharp pizza cutter so they are very defined. For the box... the top is rounded. Next time try carving the top level... that may help make the edges more precise.
Your flowers are very beautiful. I think if you would have filled up with some more tissue you probably would have had more of the "hat box" look you were looking for too.
I think adding more tissue might have helped. That cake is beautiful by the way. I wish one of my firsts looked that good!

A split muffin???? Khoudek was right - you're too hard on yourself -- I liked her tip on tissue paper though -- I think I'll try it one of these days! You did a great job! And your flowers were perfect!
