Practice Cake

Practice Cake on Cake Central

This is a practice cake that I just finished for an upcoming wedding, the cake will have mint green orchids and it will be 4 tiers. I'm not very happy with the border, I used a tip #47 for it, the bride wants that kind of border. And she gae the topper, I don't really like it, it looks very cheap, is made of aluminum, but that's what she wants. Let me know if you have any tips on how to prevent the hand shaking when making an straight border.

Iti's beautiful. Did you make those flowers? They are beautiful. I agree with the others on the border, do it in fondant. Cut the fondant with a pizza cutter for a nice edge with no pulling.

Your cake is beautiful! So smooth..... I know what you mean about the hand shaking - but I think your border is great!

Thank you for all yor nice words!! , I tought about a fondant border 2 but She likes the stripes look on the border, that's why I used a tip #47 with the serrated side up, maybe a should find a way to do it with fondant and give it the same look. TheVienneaus I made the flowers long time ago, i keep them in an air tight container in a dark cool place.

It looks pretty, I love the flowers they are looking so pretty with the green centres. How about a fondant border instead? And I think the topper will look better on the bigger cake. It is a little out of proportions on this one.

You are right about the the topper, I told that to the bride since the cake probaly will be 14", 12", 10", 8" , but she insist on that topper, She is the type that want a champagne wedding in a beer budget! go figure! :o

It's beautiful..as for the hand shaking, just try doing the border at a different level? Maybe put it on a higher surface? I just did a cake that had that same topper...it was a bigger cake, so it looked fine. A very stark topper though.
