I had so much fun making this cake, but it took me forever (as I am still learning). Thank you DianeLM for all the inspiration. Chocolate cake iced in bc. Cap is cake iced in chocolate fondant. Dipoloma is fondant. Stars and numbers are gumpaste.
Thank you for nice comments. Imartsy, the letters and stars were done by using a small knife to cut around templates I had made on the computer using a font I thought looked nice. It took longer than cookie cutters would have, but I didn't have any. Plus, this way, I got to pick the size I wanted.

Sun11598, the cap is half of the wilton ball pan with the top cut a little to make it flat and the board is between 6-7 in square.

I made the tassel using fondant that I pressed through my garlic press.
