In album: baby-girl
I have been dying to make a dress cake and was excited when I got an order for a baby girl's baptism cake. I suggested this type of cake to the customer (even though I had never made one before) and showed her some pictures of similar cakes. She loved the idea, and the pressure was on! It took me just about all day to make, but I was pleased (and relieved) with the results. Cake was cut out of a sheet cake and frosted with buttercream icing. Thanks to those who provided help through the "How Do I" forum!

You did a great job!! Is that what the baby's dress looks like?
cakes47 7/29/06 at 8:28pm
GORGEOUS!! Please tell us how you did it using bc!!! FANTASTIC!!!

Thank you all so much--I appreciate your nice feedback! Kpetcov- yes, it was very similar to the baby's dress, only the real dress was made entirely of eyelit fabric which I was not brave enough to try to duplicate. Mjones17 and cakes47, thank you both! I made pleats by using a really large round tip (12 I think) and running verticle rows of buttercream down the cake to make it look dimensional. I let the icing crust and then frosted over it and smoothed it out very gently.

I love this cake! You did a beautiful job. Are the buttons & ribbon real?
Michele25 8/1/06 at 9:26pm
Yes, they are both real. :D

Michele, I hope you don't mind a question about those pleats! I'd love to try them with BC, your pleats look awesome. Were they difficult? I understand what you're saying about the vertical rows but wonder if I could get the dress smooted out as nicely as you have. Do you have any tips or advice? Thank you.
