I made this cake, my first attempt at a doll cake, for my daughter's 2nd birthday. I had some trouble with cake crumbs getting into the yellow icing...just something I have to work on in the future.
I used one 8 inch round cake pan and one stainless steel bowl that measured 8 inches across the top. I sliced the cake into very thin layers and iced between them, which gave a little extra height.

Her hat is made of craft foam (comes as a sheet), which is "peel and stick". I just peeled the backing from the base of hat and stuck it to her head.

which pans did you use
Still a great job, and one tip, is to freeze cake before you icing it, helps to keep the crumbs off.
Thanks for the tip! I'll try that next time.
