My Mom's Retirement Party Cake

My Mom's Retirement Party Cake on Cake Central

I made this cake for my mom who was having a retirement/bon voage party. She moved to Florida and so I got some ideas from other CCers around palm trees and the like. It actually looked much better than this, but unfortunately the dumb men who carried the cake from the car to the venue, mishandled it, and it actually began to crack on the bottom layer:(. We had to turn it to the back and make some quick adjustments so the guest wouldn't notice. I knew I should have taken it in myself, lesson learned!

To get the color, I mixed Satin Ice red with Satin Ice yellow. My husband has really large hands so he kneaded the two together. :D I used a ratio of 1 part read with 2 parts yellow. To me Satin Ice is the smoothest. Thanks for the compliments

you did a beautiful job on this cake. the red/orange is so vibrant, a perfect contrast to the light sand, green and brown. nice palms too.
