Girl's Bedroom.....a Bit Too Tidy To Be Real!

Girl's Bedroom.....a Bit Too Tidy To Be Real! on Cake Central

This doesn't represent my own daughters bedroom by any means! However, this is a fun scene to make. The girl was a Sound of Music fan, hence the dvd cover on the floor.

how in the world did you get your icing soooo smooth? Is it fondant or BC? Such a cute cake. Going into my favorites album.

When I cover the cake, I use a cake smoother over the top and then cup my hands to gently gather in the icing to the corners before running a smoother down each side. Press the flat edge of the smoother down into the board and cut away the excess. I rub along the top edges of the cake gently but firmly back and forth to smooth it and shine it. Cup your hands around the corner edges and rub in the same manner. Try it next time.

I only started making cakes 3 years ago and no, I haven't attended classes. I taught myself from sugarcraft magazines and books. I don't use molds of any kind. All my work is hand crafted. I make the hair using a sugar gun and trim it and style it with craft scissors. Thankyou for your lovely comments.

A sugar gun is used to extrude paste in different shapes. Paste is placed into the gun, a disc attached to the end with the desired shape, pull the handle and the paste extrudes in a long sausage of the shape you choose. I use the disc with multi holes in to use for strands on hair. It's a great toy....although I stared at it in wonder for about 6 months after I first bought it!
