In album: winter
These cakes were chocolate. I covered them with buttercream and then 2 layers of fondant. The top layer is cut off to resemble snow drifts and then the top was cut like a pie (wedges) and rolled back to dry. I made the snowflakes by hand with royal icing. (Thanks Wilton for the idea...)

I just read a thread on this and asked you what you used for wire. I just wanted to insert it into my favorites! Every year I make a cake for my town's annual "Winterfest".

I bought the wire at a craft store. It is covered wire that comes in different diameters and colors. They are straight sticks that are about a foot long.

I am new to wedding decorating and was asked to make this cake only in squares. Was wondering if you could give me any pointers? Did you measure at all when making the fondant icicles on the sides of the cake? Thanks!
BeckySue 12/1/06 at 10:58pm
No I didn't measure - just eyeballed it. Let your snowflakes dry at LEAST a couple of days before you use them. (I dried mine for a week)
