I am NOT a math whiz. I thought I was figuring the right amount of pearls needed. Told my friend/assistant (she does my flowers) that I needed approx. 350 but to make 400 just to be sure. Guess what--needed 600 so last night, we were furiously making pearls. Finished 16" cake this AM.

I have handrolled fondant pearls before. I even bought a tiny measuring spoon so each one would be perfect (which yours definitely are!). It is a painstaking process. I know what you went through. Did you handpaint each line with the lusterdust? They look perfect too? I'm in awe.

After I rooled out the fondant to the thickness I wanted, I used tip 10 to make fondant discs, then I hand-rolled them. Dropped them in a bowl of luster dust (about 25 at a time) and shook the bowl to roll them around, then I dumped it all thru a small strainer that allowed the remaining luster dust to go into another bowl for the next 25 pearls. I don't paint them--it's a dry dusting while the pearls are still soft and then let them sit under a fan to dry.
