Independence Day Birthday

Independence Day Birthday on Cake Central

This Uncle Sam hat was done for my Grandma's 91st Birthday. The cake is a 9" round over a 8" which was doweled to support the upper cake. Then the sides were carved to produced the shape. BC icing with fondant stars and streamers. The writing was with a food marker. The cake plate was a gift from my sister in law for our annual July 4th party.

Agree with all comments here! And fabulous idea as to how to make shape. My grandfather was supposed to be born on the 4rth. Dr. wanted to go to picnic, so kept my great grandmother from having him until 5th, but we do party for 4rth and usually patriotic cake too. Great idea! Might try something similar for him.

Very nice! What a good idea to put the 9 inch on top of the 8 inch to help create the shape. Is the cakeboard covered with blue buttercream stars?

I want to attempt to make this for my brothers 4th of july engagement party, but looks pretty tough. I've already made the cakes. Did you cover it with butter cream and them pipe for texture. What tip did you use?
