Golf Ball Cake

Golf Ball Cake on Cake Central

This is a cake I made for my boss' birthday. I think it turned out nice considering this was just my second cake I've ever decorated (other than the usual homemade ones that you didn't put any time into). My boss was very surprised when he saw it...he had no clue that I could do anything close to this! I didn't either!

I am doing basically the same cake for a groom's cake this weekend. The bride wanted the whole ball...glad to see your picture...give me an idea of what it will turn out like now! Buttercream icing or fondant?

Actually, because I wasn't sure about how to make chocolate buttercream, I used cans of Duncan Hines Milk Chocolate frosting and added powdered sugar to get it a little stiffer. This was before I knew about the Viva paper towel trick, so I spent forever smoothing this thing. The golf ball is covered in buttercream.

The powdered sugar didn't change the taste as far as I could tell...it still tasted like canned frosting! I like canned frosting, though!
