Tropical 40th

This cake was my first attempt at palm trees. I learned why not to use rolled wafer cookies to make the trunks. They didn't last very long. I set the cake up at 3pm and by the time of my friend's party, the trees looked like a hurricane hit them. My friend was still happy with the cake. The palm leaves are royal icing, the sand is graham cracker crust, the water is piping gel, and the rest is The island was a 10" circle atop a 1/2 sheet cake.
