Romantic Wedding Cake

Romantic Wedding Cake on Cake Central

This is the cake I that started me on my new cake decorating journey 5 months ago. I tried to cover it with fondant but the kitchen was so hot that day my fondand never worked :( Even my royal icing was melting so I had to decorate at the reception site. The lights were dimmed so I couldn't get a really nice picture. bummer! The cake was much better looking in real life. All flowers are sugar paste, some of the little filler flowers and the ones I used on the borders were handpulled. Mission accomplished!

I'm glad I'm not the only one with heat problems. It was 110 here yesterday (seriously) and I have NO AC (swampcooler). So my frosting doesn't crust and while I got the mmf to work eventually... it was a chore! GREAT JOB.

I feel your pain, alicegop! I wasted an entire day trying to get my fondant to work. I finally had to give up and covered it with buttercream. I had to do my royal icing borders twice because the first borders just melted like icecream! Didn't know that's possible! I had to make another quick batch of royal icing then rushed the stacked cake to the reception site to finish my work. Once in a cooled room everything went well. I learned to always expect the unexpected from this cake :)

Simply gorgeous. One question though - did you use a styrofoam ball to put the flowers in on the top of the cake, or is that a rounded cake there as well?
