I did this cake for the Wilton cake decorating contest. The theme was "decorate to celebrate" which is pretty loose and I wanted to come up with something original. So I came up with the idea to make a Mormon pioneer handcart cake to celebrate Pioneer Day, which they have in Utah on July 24. The wheels and sides are made of dried fondant. For the sides, I painted on food color and then used a faux woodgraining tool. All the supplies inside are edible materials also.
