Tiara On Pillow

The completed cake. Gumpaste tiara, sweet peas and daisies. Pillow is Italian Cream cake with chocolate cannoli filling. Base cake is Chocolate Italian cream cake with cannoli filling. Can't tell you how much was left over because the restaurant staff served the other cake and didn't want to cut mine because "it's too pretty". I finally had to cut and serve it! My cousin went home with more than half of it - less than a quarter of the cake went at the party!! But I did get many compliments.

Well I'm in awe! First of all, I don't even see any breakage (amazing!! ) and the design is beautiful! The jewels add the perfect touch.

Thanks so much. It's gumpaste as opposed to RI, but I actually did have a small piece break in two spots in the back (can't see the spot in the photo). It's hard to see in person to as I was able to use more gumpaste to mend it.

Looks great! the little jewel may just have been at an odd anlge in the photo so as not to catch the flash and sparkle like the big one. I'm adding it to the website as an example of the jewels...Im so glad you were happy with them!!!

Thanks so much everyone. I've been wanting to try this for so long and figured this cake would be a good opportunity. Here is the link to the tutorial by our very own ShirleyW: (...)

Grace it turned out so lovely, can hardly wait to see the entire cake assembled. Thank you for the credit on the tutorial, I am glad it helped you along with this technique.

could I ask you about using straws to support your cake? I have heard of it 1,000 times and was wondering how it works with 2, 3, 4 or 5 tiers do the straws hold all that weight or are dowel rods a better choice for more tiers?

dawn, I'm sorry I really can't answer because this is only the third time I've done a tiered cake and the first using straws. Also, I've only ever done two tiers. There are plenty of others on CC who swear by this technique though.

I love this cake for the ruffles. Must have taken ages (I say that cause it would have taken me days lol)

Thanks so much! I must say that I think this is one of my all-time favorites. I'm still kicking myself for having not made the cake board smaller under the pillow though.

Sounds delicious...and looks spectacular! Everything from the pleated base tier to theflowers all the way up to the tiara...is perfect!

This came out fabulous! I loved being able to see the other pictures of the different components, the bottom tier is sooo amazing! Tiara with jewels - so cool, just an all around amazing job!

This is exceptional. I tried with royal and failed, but you have inspired me to try with gumpaste tomorrow. I hope my results are half as good as yours.

Thank you again for all the positive comments. I appreciate them and I have to admit that I'm pretty proud of the way this bottom tier came out. It wasn't very hard, but it did require quite a bit of attention to detail.

I don't know how I missed this cake before, I found it looking for ways to use stencils. All I can say is WOW!! I love this cake!!!

This is a total awesome cake, I am going to attempt making a royal icing tiara. How did you get the color like that? It looks like its made of Iron, that is totally awesome. You are truely talented. I wish i can snap my fingers and have a pink and purple version of that cake....that is soooo pretty.

Thanks so much! Fondantfrenzy, the tiara is actually made from gumpaste instead of RI. I believe the gold is Antique Gold Luster Dust painted on after I mixed it with Everclear.
