Quicky cake for one of my bosses who's b-day is today. Forgot about it until 8pm last night so I stayed up a little late, whoops! 8" round inspired by a Collete Peters design.
My hubby loves black licorice but doesn't like cake to much. What flavor of cake is it???What are the candies on the top?? I could do it for him this weekend for Fathers Day or his B-day is in a month also. I think he might actually like this kind of cake
Actually the only thing that is black licorice about this cake is the licorice on sides and the good n plenty on top. The cake is actually yellow with buttercream/strawberry preserves filling. An idea for a black licorice cake might be grinding up black licorice candy in a food processor into tiny bits and then mixing in with some buttercream for a filling. I think that for someone that loves it, it would be great!
I just check at Hobby Lobby and they have Anise flavoring I thought about adding that?? But my kids don't like Black Licorice and they with want some cake so I might skip it on this one But it is a thought for the future cakes Thanks for the Ideas
your cake is great. I can't get over how smooth your icing is!! I've seen that dotted border in Colette's book and you did a great job! It really adds something to your cake
MAK-The cake board is actually a cake plate that my co-worker (who the cake was for) gave to me as a present when I started getting into decorating. It's a favorite of mine too :)
kaychristensen - I agree that it would be hard to please most with a black licorice cake...that's why I went with the additions of it rather than the whole thing flavored that way.

The cake is cute, but I LOVE THAT CAKEBOARD -- it's really quite nice.
I agree with MAK, that cakeboard is way awesome! Where did you get it or how did you decorate it?
