Shimmering Grapevines

Shimmering Grapevines on Cake Central

Fondant covered cake with fondant grapes and gumpaste grape leaves. The bride brought a photo she wanted and was very pleased with the outcome. I don't have an airbrush, so I mixed luster dust with vodka and put it in a spray bottle, misted the cake before putting on the leaves, then lightly brushed the surface to blend.

Absolutely beautiful. Love the idea of spraying the cake with bottle. I have to make a cake next week and need to paint the fondant. How much vodka/lusterdust did you use? Thanks in advance for sharing.

I can't really give an exact formula for mixing the spray formula. It was 2 AM! I used a whole container of luster dust and enough vodka to make the spray bottle workand til the color looked right. Had to go over it a couple times. Let it dry, then dusted over all with dry pearl dust.

This is the most beautiful cake....you should send the pic into Mailbox News with instructions on how you did it so they can share it with all cake decorators!

This is elegant! If you don't mind me asking....how much luster dust and vodka do you 'mix' together to spray?
