This was my first attempt at a BC glaze. I made this cake to take in to work (where most of my creations are appreciated), and as a prototype for the graduation cake I made for a co-worker of mine. This was a 12"×18" red velvet sheet cake. Oohs and aahs from everyone at work who saw it, and it was all gone by lunchtime!

Wow...I'm sure it took you a long time to do it ! Verry amazong ! btw , what is BC glaze ?
basilikon 5/20/05 at 7:16am
BC glaze is short for "ButterCream glaze". It's made by combining equal parts stiff consistency BC icing and corn syrup. It oozes like Wilton ColorFlow (tm), but doesn't harden when it sets.

oohh ! Good to know ! But if it doesn't harden , does it bleed , or is it messy ? Because I really like the look...looks a bit like piping gel

Again, WOW! This is amazing how great your details are. Very impressive!

Wonderful job!!

Don't worry, angelkiss ... it sets once it's on the cake for a little while (I put it in the fridge afterwards), and it doesn't run, either, when you cut the cake

I think daviscakes is at the blackjack table wanting another card, basilikon. This cake is just gorgeous! I have never heard of buttercream glaze and now I want to try it!

Thanks, Cakey :) ... Just make sure that when you do the BC glaze, you use light (not dark) corn syrup. I find the Karo Vanilla Corn Syrup works quite well.

rubybhalla13 5/7/06 at 9:46pm
very very beautiful cake
basilikon 5/8/06 at 2:24am
thanks, ruby :) ... actually, tabs, I scanned the playing card, and enlarged the design (after reversing it to get a mirror-image) and then traced the pattern with coloured piping gel through a piece of parchment paper. I used this piping gel tracing as a pattern and transferred it to the top of the cake, then decorated with BC and BC glaze.
