This was my first cake-for-hire, as it were. Also only the second time I've done a BC glaze. This was a 9"×13" sheet cake. Took hours to decorate (I hope my speed improves with experience!
This is the best cake i have seen! Truly awesome details! I probably would have charged a mini fortune. I don't think that people who know nothing about cakes know the hard work and detail that goes into these cakes!!
To do the details, I started with a scanned mirror-image of a playing card at 1200 dpi, printed that out, and used it as my template for a piping-gel transfer. I outlined all the areas in buttercream (thinned slightly), then filled in each area with one of about 6 or 7 different colours of buttercream glaze (BC thinned 50/50 with corn syrup).
Thanks, all ... it was time-consuming, but I'll chalk it up to charity work, considering I really undercharged for it ... LOL ... The border is just an alternating-colour reverse shell border (the easiest kind of reversed-shell border, with a bag in each hand LOL).
You could specialize in these cakes and make a fortune, especially if you live in Las Vegas!!! You are so talented and so nice to explain to us all how you did it! I can't wait until I have the time to try something like this. Great job!!!
Thanks very much, Cakey! I really wish I had the time to work on cakes more, but I stay so busy with other things. Gotta keep in practice, though, right? :)
