In album: hatter
Only the bottom layer is cake. The rest is a dummy cake built from paper mache hat boxes (cheaper than styrofoam). All iced in bc and covered with MMF. The topper is floral wire with beads and MMF decorations. I had so much fun making this cake and got an order for another one upon delivery. Inspired by Lindy Smith and other designs seen on cake central. Still need lots of practice covering cakes with MMF, but it was fun to try.

very cool.if you wanna try to avoid the creases in the fondant at the bottom of the cake..try rolling the fondant atleast 10"bigger than the cake diameter, say if you are covering an 8X4"round cake you will need to roll out your fondant almost 18" big,and try raising your cake a couple of inches higher than the countertop,so that when you lay fondant over the cake it will drape and you will have room to take a clean scissor and trim the fondant at the bottom.thats how I do it and it always works for me.

That is so nice of you to help me with that problem. I have an order for another cake in a couple of weeks and I will definitely use these suggestions. Thank you!

what a wonderful color display, your cake is so beautiful. Did you put the floral spray directly into the cake?

The top layer is a dummy cake, so yes I was able to put the wires directly into the cake. If it was real cake, I would use a posy pic filled with floral foam inserted into the cake. Thanks for looking!
