Simple Scrollwork Cake With "not-My-Favourite" Floral Topper!
A really simple cake, just a bit of detailing....then the florist brought me what I had THOUGHT was going to be a few fresh flowers I would add to the top. I didn't know she had pre-made a weird cluster of flowers with strange ivy bending everywhere and a huge lily in the middle that looks like a cross between a trumpet and the Venus Fly Trap from "Little Shop of Horrors"!
Because of the strange topper, this will not make it to my website, so here it is....
Forget the topper, the cake is beautiful! Simple, and elegant. I love it!
I agree. The cake is stunning!
I like the topper. Put it on there, girl; it's very nice. I had almost the exact same experience...
the topper is over the top, but i like it & i love your cake, from the pic the topper doesn't look bad-adding to favs
your icing is SUPER SUPER smooth!! whats your secret??? beautiful cake... i love it...
Wow, your icing and the scrollwork does not leave much thoughts for the topper! Looks stunning! Great work!
did you use a hot knife to get the icing that smooth?? absolutely gorgeous in spite of the "audrey II" on top
haha!! It IS Audrey II...that's hilarious! As for the smoothing, it's Martha's IMBC....the only one I use. Smooths like a dream. No tricks per se, just practice.
I like the cake...beautiful work!
Can you post the recipe for the IMBC? Or email it? [email protected]. BEEEEEAUtiful cake!!!
This is beautiful! If you have a picture without the topper I would post that.
I would love to know the imbs (what is IMBC??)..... It really is flawless, it takes me 30min to get anywhere near smooth, lol.
It is perfect--is the frosting recipe in the site's recipe box? I don't think the toppers bad, just a little big...
WOW -- smooth smooth smooth - beautiful -- MissyJo - IMBC is Italian Meringue Butter Cream
As always, your cakes are just beautiful. I feel your pain on the flowers - I had a similar (and I believe WORSE) experience with one of my cakes. I was told the florist would be making some small arrangements for the cake tops (it was two tiers on separate stands) the flower arrangements wound up being bigger than the cakes! You can see the pic in my photos, it's one of the first few I uploaded... just horrific. I was mortified.
Love how you get it so smooth!! I had a buttercreamd "mini nightmare" this weekend too...I told the bride (who was suppling the flowers) to get good sized roses for her cake, that 12 would be good for a 7" top tier and I thought I would only need about 7....she got me the tiniest sweetheart roses...I had to use all 12 just for the top, none left for the sides! And she was standing there the whole time!
Simply Beautiful!!
Awsome cake the topper isn't soo bad looking but it sure does not take from your beautiful cake. Can you email the recipe [email protected]
Martha's IMBC recipe can be found on her website under the recipes section www.marthastewart.com

The cake is beautiful, and I like the flower arrangement on top. The viny-stem things tie in with the scorll work pretty well!
Be a u ti ful cake so the cake topper is a bit different didn't hurt the cake at all!
