How do you get the stems so thick to look like real callas?

Flowers are made of gumpaste - I used a cally lily cutter for the shape. Flower centers are made of gumpaste dipped in yellow cornmeal. I found hollow "spaghetti" to use as the stems then wrapped it in floral tape. You could use a straw as well.
