In album: cone
I made these for my niece for her birthday. My SIL wanted something easy for the kids to handle, she suggested cupcakes. So I made cup cakes with a twist!

what a clever idea! was there anything in the base to stop them being top-heavy?

No, I was so suprised how well they stood up. I had read somewhere where they made these by putting the batter into the cones and baking them that way but I filled a cupcake pan with batter and then placed the cone into the batter! I was so afraid the cones were going to burn, but they did just fine.

so you placed the cone upside down ON the batter? sorry.... I don't understand very well :P

Yep, I poured the batter and stuck the cone in upside down, so when you took them out, the cake was baked into the cone. That way the cake would be shaped like real ice cream! There was nothing in the bottom half of the cone. And sorry, sometimes I can't put my madness into words! I hope I kinda cleared things up!

What a good idea! I have baked some by pouring the batter into the cone, but find that they don't always rise evenly - will try your way next time as I think this will give a more uniform appearance. Also, I hadn't even thought to make them look like ice creams (I haven't seen these cones in the shops - only the little cupcake ones)! Well done!
