yikes I was so busy trying to figure out how to layer the photos together I forgot to mention that this entire cake would not have even been close to possible without all of the tremendous help of SLK....she answered tons of my ?'s and never complained once when I kept asking her to send me photos of different parts of her guitar cake LOL Needless to say she was very patient and a great, great help to me........thank you SLK...THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!
Wow! I thought all of the pictures were of your cake! Awesome job! You have to look REALLY close to tell which is the real guitar and which is the cake!
You don't need to thank me dear! Your cake puts mine to shame. This is awsome!!!! I agree with jen1977 - it's hard to tell what the cake and whats the real guitar! I really like the two colors on the neck. I'm going to have to try that some time.
I just carved the cake out of a 1/2 sheet cake and made the neck and head out of styrofoam and covered everything in fondant and then painted with luster dust and clear vanilla.....oh and the white paint was white powdered food coloring (for chocolate?) and clear vanilla.
OMG, WOMAN!!!! This is OUTSTANDING!! I would have such a hard time cutting into this thing...soooooo PERFECT! I bet the recipient(s) were FLOORED! Awesome, awesome work!!!
I won't know until Sunday  the girl picking it up loved it though and was pretty sure her mom (the customer) would love it....it's for her younger brother for his graduation cake....the guitar in the photo is his...they snuck in his room and took the pics when he was at school...so he has no idea he's getting this kind of cake...she told him she got one at costco! LOL
OH MY GOSH, i cant stop looking at it, i keep reading comments, then i scroll back up and look again, wow-weeeeeee and you mean to tell me that you got this awesome look from luster dust and clear vanila? wow,,,,, this is amazing, you rock!
yep, luster dust and clear vanilla......just put a blob of it on and then used the end of my paint brush and kinda drew it threw the blob making the tails and it dried perfectlly!
okay, so I heard back from the customer.....and they loved it......it was supposed to be served at the Open house as people came and went...but the graduation guy it seems refused to allow anyone to cut it.....said he wanted to make sure everyone that came saw it in one piece to see how cool it was!!! yeah!! My first official customers and they were happy.......wheeewwww
LOL they actual only paid me 50........and I spent just about that on supplies.........however I didn't ask to be paid..........so I was happy to get anything!!!! Price was NEVER discussed.......I was friends with the daughter of the lady ordering it so I figured I'd make it a favor to her!
It actually wasn't that bad.........I would say......(keeping in mind I have 3 kids and went to the cake back and forth off and on for a whole day).....maybe 2 hours of actual construction and everything besides the painting....and then maybe another 2 hrs. to paint....but I made the little gumpaste screws and string plates in advance.....hard to say
OH my goodness.........I didn't even realize it was there.......I can't believe this........me?? being recognized by wilton??? this is amazing.....thanks for telling me......I'm so excited!!
LOVE IT!!! my son would kill for this cake....might have to attempt something like this for his 20th next month!! ??? tho...would it be possible to do something like this with bc instead of fondant?? he's not keen on fondant at all!!!
