Topsy Turvy / Mad Hatter Bug Cake Side View
This cake was done for a special birthday party. The recipient is a gardener so bugs were requested. The design was partially taken from a cake seen in a local cake shop window, but modified to be more cartoonish. Thanks to andrealinn for bug inspiration. I really enjoyed doing this one despite the late night!

What a fun cake...think I'll try this one for my daughters b-day.
This cake is OUTSTANDING!!!! I want to try my first topsy turvy cake for my cousin for Mother's Day. I searched the internet for other possible color combinations so I don't completely copy it but I cannot find anything better looking then this! Any tips?
Thanks to all for your lovely comments. It was so much fun to make! My only tip is to make the flowers & bugs ahead of time. I did put toothpicks in the snails so that they wouldnt fall over. Other than that it's all stuck together with gum glue! Olana11-the colours were the "electric" blue, green, and yellow. As for the pink...I had "fuschia" as well, but when I coloured a test piece it came out much more like a lilac colour. I used regular wilton pink instead!
How did you make such great antennas?
This is beautiful! The detail is amazing! :D
I think the antenna are made from the centers of wire flowers?? I don't know what they are called, but my mom used to make those when I was a kid. This is such a great idea!
Yes, that's what they are! I think they're called stamens.
