Chocolate cake with buttercream icing. Fondant covered fish, painted with powered colors mixed with lemon extract. First attempt on making a fish. It was fun and a big hit.
wow wonderful cake..... I am looking to do one of those for father's day.. did you just carve the cake the shape and how did you get the scales on the fish
I used a 9x13 pan for the fish then just cut the shape out, but not the tail. I cut the tail peice from the extra. For the scales I used tip 12, the one you use for the base of the roses. Found out the hard way, that you must make the scales immediately. When the fondant hardens even a little, the tip will not go through. Fins are also fondant on toothpics.
