3D Baby Cake

3D Baby Cake on Cake Central

This is one of two cakes for a surprise baby shower for a teacher at my boys' school. It's covered in a MMF/rolled buttercream combo. It was good to work with but I'm not sure I like the shinyness. It was much easier than I thought it would be to cover the head with fondant. I used an embosser to make a diamond pattern on the blanket and cut a fringe on the blanket. There's a pink MMF bow on her head. I painted on the face details with gel colors.

This is awesome! I've only been doing cake decorating for about 3 months. This picture is very inspiring. Looking forward to learning how to do things like this. Great job! Keep up the nice work.

Thanks for the nice comments! Yes, the head is just a round ball pan that I cut a little off the top and bottom. I liked working with the mmf/rbc. The good part is that if you are slow it doesn't dry so you have plenty of time to get it smooth. I did sort of use my baby as a model, LOL, but she's waaaaay cuter than the cake!

I just can't believe this! How did you do this!?! My favorite part is the little rump in the air just like my little girl used to sleep. Aww.... Wonderful job!
