Here's how I did it... instead of piping the royal icing directly in the cookie, I piped it on top of a piece of waxed paper that had the picture of Diego underneath. I did the hair first (piped and filled) and then the countour of the face. I did the eyes the same way and left to dry overnight. Once everything was dry, I, VERY carefully peeled the eyes from the waxed paper and glue them to the face with royal icing. Piped mouth and eyebrows into face and glued face into cookie with royal icing.

These are fantastic! I tried to do a Diego cookie cutter and it was a disaster - the eyes are especially tough! Great work!
