tennis ball is not all icing! it is a little scrap of cake covered in stars. it was looking pretty good until i added the words. i am not capable writing on my cakes without ruining them. :/ any advice?

I think your writing looks ok hun, I would have used a different color though to make it stand out more. But other than that it's a good job.
Your writing looks great! I always use a letter press because my writing is awful! Good job on the cake!
