Sun Cake For A Party
I made this for a crawfish boil - it is a vanilla Dream Cake with Whimsical Bakehouse icing. The sun is chocolate transfer. It was a big hit. The star border is a bit unimaginative, but I was short on time. Square cake are much hard to ice than round ones!! I did not know that!! I think I will stick to the crusting buttercream from now on. It is so much easier to work with.
Awesome! the crusting buttercream is easier to work with, but isn't the whimsical bakehouse buttercream yummy?
What a wonderful job! I love the sun transfer, the whole look of it, it's great!
Awsome chocolate transfer, I just love it. Keep up the good work.
wonderful job
Really lovely cake! Your chocolate transfers are beautiful!
It's a great cake. you should be more positive bout it, done great
A hit for sure! Great transfers!
Chocolate transfer is basically just like Buttercream transfer - you pipe the whole thing face side down on parchment paper. As for the shading, this is done with the wilton candy brushes - I just let the outside sit for a bit so it wasn't soft anymore. Thanks for all the great comments!!
oh i get it! so i should kind of let the outlines harden up a bit before shading... got it! i will try this again next time. the explanation in the book wasn't very clear and i tried to brush on the shadows while the outlines were still wet and well, didn't turn out so great :P i know better now, thanks!
Thanks for all the great comments! I really love the chocolate transfer process - so much fun!!!
Incredible! So gorgeous!!
beautiful!!! you have to tell me how you did the shading... i can't ever do it without messing up the dark chocolate outline!
what is a chocolate transfer?? it looks amazing!!!
Looks fantastic!! I'm in LOVE with chocolate transfers!
Thanks ajay0665! I appreacite the comment. I actually got this idea right out of the Whimsical Bakehouse book - the pattern and techniques, everything. If you like it, I would really recommend that book. This was constructed in pieces - the face, then all the rays - and attached using buttercream piped out in big blobs. It is all candy melts - which I just purchased already colored, so convenient. The shading is done with the Wilton candy brushes. Thanks again!!
LOVE THIS CAKE!!! So did you do each section of the sun separately and then assemble? And this chocolate transfer..is it white chocolate that you colored yellow and then painted on the orange shading? I am fairly new to cake decorating and I have NEVER SEEN SOMETHING SO AMAZING! Did the sun stick out on the sides?
very laid back looking sun 8) ...you did an excellent job on the transfers.
