Flower Pot

Flower Pot on Cake Central

This was a birthday cake for my mother-in-law. It was my first time making flowers out of fondant (fondant mixed with gumpaste powder). Unfortunately, the pot started to crack at the bottom - I think the cake inside was lopsided and it was leaning forward. oops! Fortunately the cake was good - it was 4 layers of chocolate cake with cookies and cream filling. I got so rattled when it started to break, I forgot to write Happy Birthday! Any advice for working with fondant successfully?

thank you! I didn't learn it (but I'd really should have someone teach me) - I just went to the florist and bought a tulip a stem of daisies and a daffodil and then just looked at them and tried to make something that looked like them.

Hi kiddo, well it looks fabulous anyway and hey, clay pots crack, so it is natural. Advice, I will send you a link on the clay flower pot cake, not sure you used this method but it works well! But your cake is wonderful!

you did a wonderful job......word to the wise with the flower pots....ice and cover them in the fondant while they're upside down.....much easier to work with.

did you have stems inside of the flower stems?? Did that make sense.........is there wire in there?? Or is it just fondant with gumpaste powder?
