Nachos

I made this cake for a Mexican themed party a coworker was having. It was my first 3D theme cake, as well as my first time working with fondant.

Gosh... you did a GREAT job! All of the individual pieces of the cake look very real.... Pat yourself on the back, you deserve it :)

Thanks guys!! I was nervous to post the photos because I just started doing this so I have a LOT to learn. But I did the chips in MMF and coated the back side with candy coating so I could shape them, and the olives and tomatoes are MMF. The lettuce is tinted coconut and for the cheese I melted yellow candy coating into a block and shredded it.

Don't be nervous about posting! Your cake is very cleaver and you did a great job! We all have stuff to learn from each other, which is what is so nice about this web site.

I'm so glad I found this site - there's so many unbelievable cakes here! I love this cake - where did you get the idea? How did you do the cheese?

The idea came from this site, so kudos to everybody else! It started as tacos, then taco salad (shell kept breaking). I was about to throw in the towel and my fiance said, "why don't you just make nachos".. I had extra MMF left over from the toppings, so I colored it yellow and threw in some crushed Oreos for texture and it worked. The cheese is yellow candy coating that I melted intoa block and grated up.. Wala, taco salad. :)

That is one amazing cake!!! It looks just like nachos you could have really tricked someone with that.

thanks!! the base for the meat is a 9 inch round chocolate cake with the edges trimmed so it will fit on the plate. Then I crumbled up some more cake with a little dark chocolate icing added to it and spread it around the perimeter of the round. By the time you add everyting else on top, you don't see the round and it looks like the entire thing is a pile of crumbled up "meat"
