Picket Fences

Picket Fences on Cake Central

This was a 75th birthday cake, but I thought it would also make a great Mother's Day Cake. The cake is covered in bc, the pickets, bows, archway and "75" is all done in royal (colourflow technique). The tall flowers are done on broken pieces of spaghetti noodles, covered in royal icing, and then the flowers were done in bc. The posts were done in bc also. I was very happy with how this cake turned out, but next time I would have done my pickets abit thicker since you can see abit of the blue coming thru

so did you pipe the pickets right onto the cake???? Or did you pipe ahead of time and let them dry? If so, how did you allow for the roundness of the cake itself?

I did the pickets in advance in royal icing. I didn't worry about the roundness of the cake, just put them on, and tried to "eyeball" to make sure spacing was good. It all worked out. I did this on a square cake later with leftover pickets.

This is a beautiful cake. I love the fence around the bottom layer, the colors of the flowers and the the arch on the top. Great job!
