Stages Of Motherhood
This is a cake I entered in a local competition. The theme was "A Tribute to Mom" The bottom tier represents preparation for motherhood, while we are pregnant, or in the duck's case, wait for the eggs to hatch. The middle section, which takes up the most space, is the time we spend caring for our children and teaching them to prepare for being an adult. The top of the cake is an empty nest, which represents when our children go out on their own.
Wonderful theme! I love this cake! Great job :D
Wow! I love the egg with the little beak poking thru. Did you win anything?
I love your cake!!! The story behind it is awesome! The nest on top is great - how did you make it?
Such a beautiful theme! You did a phenomenal job with all of the details! ;-D
I got a 3rd place for it. This was my first time entering a contest, so I was thrilled! The nest was made by pushing fondant through an extruder to make long ropes. I laid them in a bowl to form the nest and let it stiffen up. Next time I'll mix in some gum paste, as it was quite fragile when it dried. Thank you all for your nice comments!
Very cool! Did you paint the scenes on it?
Gorgeous cake with a marvelous story
FANtastic!!
the theme is so good n u've executed it beautifully.... congrats!
what a fun idea! very cute!
momsandraven, you're a real artist, congratulations!!
angelcakesmom, I painted the bottom tier grass, the fish & the water. The seaweed is piped on and then airbrushed over to look like it's underwater. The small ducklings are piped on with RI, as are the lilypad flowers and dragonflies. The duck & duckling are molded fondant & I painted on the details/shading. Thank u everyone!
