Lords Hill Scroll Cake on Cake Central

4 tiered scroll designed cake; we placed flowers with what the florist left for us...only 4 orange roses but they had to be on there!

No its not, I worked with that once and it was delicious, but havent used it enough to know how it holds up exactly. Its just a white fudge based Icing.

Did you just place the fresh flowers directly into the cake? I am never sure as to the correct way to do this. I have used the flower spikes, but sometimes they make the cake crack.

There are several opinions about fresh flower placement....I have set up a lot of Wedding cakes with the Florist placing the flowers on the cake and they always just shove them into the frosting...no thought to it at all at to if they are organic or pesticide free. Gulp. So I just follow their example. I usually strip the stems first of foilage though, since that would be the problem anyways. :)

The icing comes to us in a base, we get a large bucket (like 4 gallon) of the stuff, then mix in shortening, sugar, and flavorings while whipping...great stuff! I use the hot spatula method for smoothing the cakes, some days are always better than others!
