Abby's First Communion Cake

Abby's First Communion Cake on Cake Central

I made this special cake for my very special daughter on her first communion cake. It was lemon dauberge and absolutely delicious. I am a beginner and very proud of accomplishing such a wonderful work of art. It was a joy to share it with others.

Dauberge is a cake that originated in New Orleans (I am from south Louisiana). It is an absolute treat if you ever visit New Orleans. The original dauberge is a butter recipe mix or yellow mix with 5-7 layers of half lemon filling and half chocolate filling. I modified it a bit by doing the entire cake lemon and I did buttercream icing on this cake because my daughter prefers that. But the original dauberge calls for a thin buttercream and a poured fondant ( half yellow, half chocolate) over the top.

You did a truly wonderful job. Your basketweave is even, your border consistent and your roses and butterfly are great. I love the cross in the back with the flowers and your writing is so good. Very impressive!
