I made this cake to celebrate the baptizing of a little boy named Andrew (in Bulgarian the name Andrey is pronounced /andrei/). The teddy bear on the top of the cake is not put there by accident. A Bulgarian folk myth has it that St. Andrew lived as a hermit high in the mountains. He made his living by plowing a small field helped by an ox until one day a meat-eating bear came down the mountain and ate it. The saint got angry, caught the bear and hitched it to plough his field. Since he tied down the most powerful wild animal people started calling St. Andrew’s day Bear’s day. In Bulgaria the Holy Church celebrates it on November 30. The message written on the scroll says that on the thirtieth day of November a little boy is being christened and after being baptized he will be named Andrew. The symbol of the candlestick and the burning candle is obvious: let it be light in the soul and along the way forward. The flame itself is not associated with any myth or tradition but it is a funny jest . I hope you are going to like the cake. :)
