Fall Fruit Barrel Basket- This is a display cake I made to teach a class. Inspired by a similar version by Wendy's Taarten. The barrel was made by cutting fondant slats, scoring to look like wood then painted with food coloring. All the fruits are hand sculpted: pumpkins, red, yellow and green apples, pears, peaches, apricots, plums, cherries, cranberries, grapes and some peanuts. There are several sizes and shapes of sunflowers and fall leaves and hand sculpted birds sitting on and around the cake. Everything was highlighted with luster dusts and steamed to set the colors.
