how did you get your fondant so red?? i keep trying and it won't stay red

I colored only a very small ammount red, enough for the strawberrys, and it took ALOT of coloring. Usually to add coloring I use the end of a toothpick, for the red I used the end of a butter knife and had to "scoop" out a big glob and then I kept adding until it got to be a true red color.
