The promise was to make a cake that wasn't too girly. A promise to design a cake that was a little less ball gown and a little more tuxedo; something befitting a sophisticated young adult entering her last teen year. I think we did it with this little number we agreed (after the fact) to call "black rain". It's a carrot cake filled with cream cheese buttercream, a band of textured fondant does for the sides and the top is more cream cheese buttercream with a hint of white chocolate and gumpaste fantasy flowers. The whole is accented with splashes of black and black candy pearls:
