Ariel In The Coral Reef

Ariel In The Coral Reef on Cake Central

Hi, I made this cake for Anna when she turned 4 years old - she loves princess Ariel, so it was quite easy to decide the design.

The giant clam is chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream, covered with fondant. The rock behind the clam is rice krispies treat covered with a thin layer of royal icing. The sand is made from cane sugar. Princess Ariel and Flounder is handmade from fondant. For the Starfish I used a cookie cutter and fondant. The coins are chocolate coins. The sea-flowers are made with littel 5 petal cutters and rose-calyx cutter.

As a child we used to live next to the son of Edward Eriksen who sculptured the Little Mermaid sculpture (Copenhagen). I remember he allways told me that his fathers muse/ model was his mom and not the actress as many believes. he was a very kind man, so making Little Ariel brought me back a lot of happy childhood memories.

I hope you'll all have a nice summer! Greetings from Little Denmark:)
