Jungle Friends

This is my adaptation of another cake addicts cake. The cake is a chocolate layer cake decorated with buttercream. The animals are hand made in fondant. These were my first fondant figures and they came out pretty cute. I love the monkeys and the hippo. The parent's of the birthday boy loved it!

This is really cute! Beautifully balanced, nice colors. I love the complementarily decorated cupcakes! This cake is very pleasing to the eye! No wonder the parents loved it! ;-D

Yes. The animals, rocks and tree tops are all fondant.

how did you get the leaves to stick to the pretzels? Are they fondant too? Also what did you use for the water?

The fondant leaves were attached to the pretzels with buttercream frosting and the water is blue piping gel.

I just found this cake this morning and bookmarked it, and this afternoon my cousin emailed to say she wants me to help her make a jungle cake for her two year old's birthday. Ha ha!

Thanks for the great comments. For the waterfall - After icing the cake with white icing, I casually mixed (not completely) blue food coloring paste with piping gel and applied to the cake. Let some of the white icing smear into the blue piping gel to look like foam and waves. :lol:
