This was a strange request for a mothers day cake especially seeing she was not a military member. Her husband gave me a rough sketch of something he wanted and this is what we came up with in the end which is almost identical to his drawing. He didn't quite know how he wanted it to look so I said why do we not try and make it look like a plaque that would be given to a service member and he loved the idea. It worked out that their are actually 2 families involved in this cake his side is army and her brothers side which is navy and they are very competitive with each other over which one is better so for these families this cake was the perfect cake for both women to share for their mothers day.
