Fondant Flower Pot

Fondant Flower Pot on Cake Central

Yet another practice with fondant. I've not been able to take classes, so learning as I go is a bit of a sticky, but fun situation. I used part of the Wilton party hat pan to get the flower pot. This was fun to do, but the flowers were tricky to stick on the wires. I didn't like the look of the thicker wire, but the flowers kept turning backwards on the thinner wires! Would appreciate feedback (positive and constuctive).

So cute, nice and smooth, looks great. Well kiddo for one thing, only the stainless steel wire is food-safe, the painted green wire has lead traces and if you wrap it with green florist tape, the tape itself is not food safe. So either you need to wrap the ends in plastic wrap or insert in a straw or something so there is no direct contact with the cake. I checked with the floral tape manufacturers. Another option is using the thinner sucker sticks.

Oh m'gosh thanks SuirrellyCakes, I never even thought about the food safety issue with the wires! I will definitely remember that next time! Thanks!

I love the pot! How did you do the terra cotta? 1 idea may be to add a half round cake at the top of the pot and decorate with big full bc or royal or gumpaste or fondant flowers grouped closely with same method adding leaves?

That sounds like a neat idea! I got the terra cotta look by painting the fondant with a mixture of Wilton coloring (I'm pretty sure it was an overdose of the copper color) and some vodka. For the darker areas, I used a thicker bit of the mixture. I'd read in one thread that someone was having trouble painting on fondant because the brush strokes remained. I've found this to be true too, but on this cake, it actually helped add to the overall effect. Thanks for looking and for the feedback!
