I entered this cake in the Mid Atlantic Cake show in Westminster MD

was just browsing pic to get inspired for my nephew b'day,loves pirates...would be cool to do but ,I am not up to that level yet....truly amazing work!!!!!!!!

It is great! I better not let my boys see this or else they will want it and I will not be able to produce the same workmanship!

Arrrr Matey's. Thanks everybody! I'm really glad you like it. As to how it was made... I stacked up 4 - 8inch rounds and then simply carved said rounds into the shape of a skull. You will have to put supports in the bottom two cakes or good ole jack's neck will collapse on you. once shaped like a skull I covered it in fondant and painted. the beads are gumpaste on wires. hope that helps a bit.

Also (I am his wife, so I know this hehe), the cake board is actually a small table topper (available at the hardware store). That helps with the barrel effect.:)

He wanted me to also tell you guys that the table top is covered in fondant and just painted with food coloring (heavy on the lemon extract to make the color sort of transparent for the wood grain look)
