This was my first 5 tiered wedding cake...it took me practically a day and a half to do by myself...thank god I did the baking a few days a head of time. The bottom/ top and middle tiers are all chocolate and the other two are vanilla...I was pretty pleased with the out come and so was the Bride and groom she couldn't believe that it was my first.....Please tell me what you guys think...Also is there a special tool or technique I should use or do for cutting the dowels?

Really cute. I love the dots all over the top layer. Way to go.

This is wonderful...if doing a lot of wedding cakes, you may want to purchase the stress-free cake support...it is pricey

I think it looks pretty danged awesome for your first!!! When I cut dowels, I put them in the cake and mark them then take'em out and cut'em.

I purchased a wonderful little miter box from Micheals in the wood crafts department. It is SO EASY to cut precise edges now on the dowels.

Did you put supports between each layer to make it so that they wouldn't lay too heavy one the bottom? when you get too high you have to put extra support to go for the extra weight that is the only thing that I could ever tell that may help you in the long run if you are going to use a heavy cake. We do some that want carrot cake or something real heavy on the top then you have to worry about it making it sag when you have it sitting to long. So always make sure that your dowelsb/boards are strong enough!

my friend wants me to make her wedding cake and im freakin out cause I want it to be perfect. How did you transport your cake. Also did you use icing for the dots around the bottom? What kind of cake did you use, I dont want my friends cake to fall apart because its not dense enough? I just need ideas and helpful hints if you have any....thanks! Great cake, amazing for your first time!

This is gorgeous! Hard to believe it's your first. I love it! You did an excellent job. I can't wait to see all your other cakes,as I see this cake was posted in 2007, so you've had lotsa time to practice. Keep up the good work! :)
