Cake Club! Steaming or airbrushing Everclear/Vodka on black fondant really makes the color pop and get rid of the dullness from the corn starch. I prefer fondant cakes to be on cake drums also covered in fondant then trimmed in ribbon.

    Otherwise great execution!

I'll try steaming next time. I don't have an air brush yet. I tried rubbing crisco. It didn't work. I still haven't tried keeping cakes on a fondant covered boards. That's also something I'm willing to try in the future. Thanks a lot.

Your fondant is nice and smooth and your edges nice and crisp. I like the colors, too. If you don't feel ready to steam (I had a steming disaster once) you can also lightly brush your fondant with a little vodka; it'sll remove the powder but not make it too shiny.

Cake Club: Nice fondant work, nice finish...agree with steaming or airbrushing with vodka. I actually don't and never would steam a cake, but I know people do I don't dismiss it.

Really good job on the fondant. I would steam it next time. It will take the black to a different level and perfect for this car theme. If you haven't tried it yet, remember to hold the steamer away from the cake in case it spits (leaving a wet spot). I also think using a covered cake drum (maybe in the blue) would've taken the whole cake up a level.

I agree with airbrushing with Vodka. For those without an airbrush, what about a Misto? And I think the board is too big, and centering it would have been real nice. Your lines look great, nice and even, the covering looks fabulous, nice straight sides. Reeal clean work, just the board looks a bit out of place.

I agree with everyone else about the steaming. Brilliant job, the only thing that brings it down a bit is the board, but it's just a little bit. :-)

Love the stripes- those are always hard to do. I would take the front sign- make the black thicker and freezer or dry it before putting it on the stripes, you won't get the bumpy look. Nicely done!!!

like the choice of co-ordinated colours... Personnally, i prefer boards covered with fondant, same colour as cake... prevents the stop/start effect when one is looking at the whole delivery. Board size, i often use a larger board than what many would say is acceptable... especially if the cake is the only item to sit on *cake table*... Never steamed a cake.... must try it... overall, i think you have created a very neat and clean line cake... well done

I think you did a great job covering the cake and applying the stripes. I agree that steaming or some other method of cleaning up the PS/CS would have helped the black to pop; as well as the comments about the cakeboard. I would have used a smaller drum style board (3 or 4 boards stacked together and coverd in fondant/edged in ribbon) for this cake.
    But overall, very well done.

Cake Club: Really like the nice clean look. The only critique I have is the bumpy part on the white V. I turn my cut pieces over and give them a quick swipe to smooth them a bit.

This cake is kinda "***y" if that makes sense!

Cake Clubber: You did a great job on the stripes. Stripes are hella hard to keep straight! Nice job with the icon on top! I agree with steaming or brushing with vodka. It really does take black fondant to a whole new level. Nice job!
