So cute! I would love to try it, could you give us some details on how you constructed it? Thanks

i just used heart cake pans and i made a butter cake so it cooked up firmer because of butter. Cut inside of bottom layer to shape, be careful that you leave at least an inch wide for rim to support fondant. I used Duff's red fondant because it is works its easy to work with.Cut a cardboard shape to fit top piece so you can lift it off of bottom. For the chocolates i made up cake balls and put them in a candy mold to shape them then poured melted chocolate over them, let them set up at room temp to cool, not fridge, the chocolate gets frosty looking, i took a toothpick and swirled the tops to give them the finishing touch. Give it a try, I had alot of fun making it. Good Luck!

Is the top just cardboard covered with fondant?

no. It is cake, the cardboard is needed for support.
